The first excerpt from A World Appears, now in The Atlantic
Dear Friends and Readers,
We’re less than a month from the publication of A World Appears, and The Atlantic has just published the first excerpt, here.
In this passage, which comes near the end of the book, I talk about my encounter with Joan Halifax, the Zen teacher. Halifax sent me to a cave in the mountains of New Mexico to meditate. It was only for a few days, but the experience profoundly affected my sense of self, time, and understanding of consciousness. I hope you’ll read it and share your thoughts.
Early reviews are coming in for A World Appears, with Kirkus calling it “a page-turner that explores the hidden world of the mind.” (Read the review here.)
Library Journal says, “as a science writer who fully immerses himself in the questions of his work, Pollan’s consciousness itself is on full display, and this is thoroughly compelling reading.” (Read here.)
I was pleased to learn that A World Appears is the latest selection of the Next Big Idea Club, here. (You can receive 10% off your Next Big Idea Club membership using code POLLAN at checkout.)
I’ll be doing a live Q&A about the book with Next Big Idea Club members on March 10 at 1 pm ET.
And please do join me on my book tour, which kicks off in New York City on February 24. You can see all of the tour stops and reserve tickets on my website: https://michaelpollan.com/appearances/
It would be great to see you at one of my events.
Cheers,

CAN. NOT. WAIT. for the release of this book! I'm a big fan, and this subject fascinates me. I can't wait to see how you approach it. 👍🏽
The Atlantic book excerpt article only increased my eagerness to read this book. “The Sense Field” and the part about the agony of meditating for hours at a time breaking down the self. So good. Hopefully I can catch one of the local events, too. Book pre-ordered. 👍
